I shoot the people the city walks past.

I’m Asim Poddar — a street and stranger-portrait photographer and filmmaker from Kolkata. Most days you’ll find me on the lanes of the city, asking someone I’ve never met if I can make their portrait.

My work lives where street photography meets the portrait: high-contrast, moody, and built around a single face. I’m not after a pretty picture — I’m after the one frame that holds a whole life. A glance, a pause, the way the light falls for half a second.

That approach has grown into a community of over 235,000 people who follow the work on Instagram as @editorwalabhaiya — one stranger, one story at a time.
